  • 111: Student Loan Crisis - Ignored by Trump!

    Episode  |  May 9th, 2019  |  1 hr 36 mins

Episode 111 of Boss Hog of Liberty is now available!

    https://bosshog.fireside.fm/124

Jeremiah Morrell and Dakota Davis are your hosts. We are joined by attorney Sean Row and Purdue University Student Mason Rottinghaus are the featured guests.

We talk about the cost of college, massive student loan debt, and the prospects for getting rid of it.
Mason is entering his sophmore year at Purdue. Students have to navigate a myriad of programs, loans, and funding sources. Did you know there isn’t an established sticker price for dorm room selection? Who pays attention when picking their meal plan?

The politico’s are starting to pay attention. Serious proposals from Senator Elizabeth Warren and others have started the conversation. Should the federal government fix this? Should the states or universities be responsible. Oregon has an interesting program. Purdue has the “Back a Boiler Program” and tuition freezes for 8 years and counting.

Students sign up for tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands in debt. Eventually, we are all going to pay for it. The question is how and when.

Also have some local updates on 1400 plaza construction and a rant on primary “elections”

    Enjoy!

Our featured guest is Dr Eric Schansberg, author and professor of Economics at Indiana University. With a broad background in public policy and a history as a political candidate, he is a perfect guest for the program.

Tonight we talked about the theory of Universal Basic Income or as Andrew Yang calls it, the “Freedom Dividend”. A fascinating conversation about how we could see the next 100 years of public policy play out.

In other news, Jeremiah is back from California, the Bears drafted a running back, Dakota struggles with words, and the guys are questioning the need for a non existent primary election to be a city holiday.

  • 109: Cord Cutting - Jeremiah wants an Abatement - City Election Troubles?

    Episode  |  April 24th, 2019  |  1 hr 46 mins

Episode 109 of Boss Hog of Liberty is now available!

    https://bosshog.fireside.fm/122

Jeremiah Morrell and Dakota Davis are your hosts. Fake farmer Kade Koger is the 3rd chair, he should be planting, but it is too moist outside… Editor of The Courier Times, Travis Weik is the featured guest.

Game of Thrones has gripped the public...That got us thinking about how we watch tv now. Does anyone still have cable? Or do we just stream it all? And if so, do you pay for your own content (PRODUCER CHRIS).

Travis recently had an editorial on property taxes and how we fund local government. We went deep down the rabbit hole...Jeremiah wants a tax abatement for his pool, because he claims it drives tourism.

The final segment highlights the local city elections and it looks like a number of the incumbent candidates struggled to meet the deadlines...Still a developing story!

Kade polls the crowd on what we do if we win the lottery. Common theme - the show gets bigger and better.

    Enjoy!
